At a medicaid expansion rally in McAlester, Oklahoma it was said that the reason why the Motorcade of Medicaid took the path they took to get to McAlester, Oklahoma was because this is Little Dixie. One of the ladies in audience sounded like she was offended, and said that they are not suppose to use that word because its associated with KKK and illiteracy.
I have heard the term “Little Dixie” used in describing the politics and culture of McAlester, OK & Pittsburg county Oklahoma (generally). Actually Ive heard the term “Little Dixie” being used to describe Southeastern Oklahoma & the entire Congressional District 2. I didn’t realize this until I moved to Southeastern Oklahoma. Though I have heard the phrase “Yellow dog” & ‘Blue dog” very rarely used in white republican or tea-party circles of Southeastern Oklahoma in reference to their white democrat counterparts in the state; but
the phrase “Little Dixie” is mostly & loosely used by white republicans in Southeastern Oklahoma to categorize white democrats in Congressional District 2 Oklahoma.
I heard what the woman in the video said in reference as to why she disliked the phrase “Little Dixie”, but I’m wondering if she disliked the phrase because it’s a truthful disclosure or a reminder of what she does not want to be said out loud.
Let’s be honest about this Little Dixie thing.. the meaning of the phrase Little Dixie does accurately depict Southeastern Oklahoma. So please lets not pretend it does not. I know what “Little Dixie” & Dixiecrat mean, as do most African Americans – even though “Little Dixie” & Dixiecrat is not a term that most blacks use. Reason being that most blacks don’t use the phrase is because its associated with the same political party that Blacks are associated with themselves. It does not mean that blacks adore Dixiecrats. Its a rock & a hard place for black folks, when there are only 2 political parties to deal with.
The needs and wants of black democrats is not necessarily the same as a Dixiecrat. Whereas the Dixiecrat wants states rights, most blacks oppose this because it would mean a death sentence them & they would have no protection when they are already racially discriminated against & are severely outnumbered. Look what happened to North Tulsa (which is not even Little Dixie). I’ve spoke with several blacks in Southeastern Oklahoma within the past 6 months about their concerns and it appears that they are paying close attention not only due to how Congressional District 2 voted in the last presidential election; but they are especially paying more attention here recently to the obvious racial disparity they are subjected to in the criminal justice system & in employment – which BY THE WAY is a system within this locality that’s controlled NOT by republicans. Remember, Southeastern Oklahoma particularly in Pittsburg & Hughes County is a democrat stronghold. I have heard many of blacks in the area say that they will cast a “retaliation vote”. I think you (the reader) know what that means. But only time will tell as to what black democrats in Pittsburg & Hughes county will actually do on voting day. I have asked them to choose their political candidate wisely, but to pay attention to the ‘”low hanging fruit” – AKA: local & state politicians.
What I have not figured out yet is how did this Little Dixie thing occur in Southeastern Oklahoma (or anywhere in Oklahoma for that matter) in the 1st place, considering that Oklahoma was not a slave state.
This video was recorded on July 27, 2013 at Chadick Park in McAlester, OK.
1 of the organizers for Coalition for Medicaid Expansion rally – Ali Canada summed up Oklahoma as a Right to Starve state. There were discussions at a Motorcade for Medicaid rally in McAlester about republicans forced out union jobs with the promise that NON-union jobs would create more jobs in Oklahoma.
The phrase “Right to Work” is deceptively worded. At a glance, that phrase implies that it gives people the right to work. But in reality, the phrase may had been worded this way so as to trick voters. Right to Work is an ANTI union movement for lower paying jobs like what you see at McDonald’s & Burger King. In essence POVERTY WAGES. As it turned out the Anti-union law (deceptively worded as Right to Work) did not produce jobs as the republicans had promised.
Ali Canada who is also 1 of the directors of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionist in Tulsa said that the Southeastern Oklahoma Labor Council is working on getting rid of the ANTI-union law, by putting it before the voters n the state ballot for 2016.
The event was videoed at Chadick Park in McAlester, OK on July 27, 2013 and coordinated by Coalition for Medicaid Expansion. The group organized a Motorcade for Medicaid which toured 12 Oklahoma cities/towns in a single day. McAlester, Oklahoma was its last stop.

Paul Lane doesn’t feel that SE Oklahoma water should be sold to Texas & OKC area as its in the interest of SE Oklahoma economic development to keep it’s water. He added that SE Oklahoma should have a voice on how its water is to be used, and that presently SE Oklahoma has NO say in the matter . Paul said that if elected he would file a companion bill w/state senator Brian Renagar (D-OK House District 17) status to make sure we have regional water boards, so that SE Oklahoman have a voice.
Lane’s opponent who is GOP nominee Larry Boggs at this political candidate forum did not offer any solution , but he did agree w/ Lane’s solution, but that SE Oklahoma had better vote for a Republican or we in SE Oklahoma will get no water rights because the republicans are in control.
The moderator’s question posed to J. Paul Lane was: “The possible sale of SE Oklahoma water to Texas & Oklahoma City area still remains unresolved. What is your stance on selling SE Oklahoma water to Texas & OKC area & if there is anything you can do to reinforce what you think should or should not be done regarding the matter ?”.
J. Paul Lane is the democrat nominee seeking election to the Oklahoma Senate District 7 that is being vacated by Richard C. Lerblance (democrat). Lane’s opponent is Larry Boggs the Republican nominee. Election is November 6, 2012.

Okla voter charge Larry Boggs as a Lying Radical Right-wing Republican for red-herring on gun rights
Pittsburg county voter expressed GOP senate candidate Larry Boggs angered him because he felt Boggs lied about Obama’s would abolish 2nd amendment rights if relected. And that Boggs tried to make a connection between the 2. This voter said that Obama does not have the power to abolish the 2nd amendment. He added that Mr. Boggs was a “radical right wing republican” doing a red herring.
When asked if he would vote for Boggs, needless to say he replied no. The lady sitting next to him responded that they would also be voting for Obama.

Barney Scott Taylor, a GOP state senate candidate 100% guarantees that if Oklahoma outlaws affirmative action, it will be sued. He said now is not the time for Oklahoma to do away with affirmative action. He brings up the NAACP & ACLU. Taylor says we (Oklahoma) don’t need that. As Taylor considers himself a pragmatist, he pointed out that a pending affirmative action case is before the supreme court (Abigail Fisher vs. University of Texas); & that while he could not answer the question if affirmative action is working because he could not get past the pragmatic part of it. He feels that the whole affirmative action thing could be shot down by the supreme court before the people of Oklahoma can even vote on it.
His view was that it didn’t make any sense for Oklahoma to come up with its own law, while the supreme court case has similar matter still pending. He said that Oklahoma should of waited to see how the supreme court rules on it.
There is a proposed eradication of affirmation action from Oklahoma law that will on voting ballot in the general election – November 2012. It was not until later on that I had learned that a black republican named T.W. Shannon was the 1 who presented this anti-affirmative action initiative.
Barney Taylor is running for Oklahoma state senate district 9, which covers Muskogee & Wagoner county. The election is November 2012.
His opponent, Earl Garrison, a democrat is an incumbent. Garrison was not present at this forum. It was announced that Garrison could not be present due to prior engagement to attend a hall of fame induction of his friend.
