Somewhere down the line, the republican party has swayed away from any issues that pertains to civil rights. I believe that one can be a republican and still be a strong advocate for civil rights.
Army Veteran and a Republican. Reason why I have not changed political parties is for the protection of my 2nd amendment rights. The republican party has many faults, but it holds firm to the 2nd amendment. However, the republican party seems to be compromising the “Shall not be infringed” part of the 2nd amendment. Everytime there’s a school shooting, the GOP tend to give in on re-qualifying which one of “the people” gets to keep & bear Arms.
Constitutional sticking point: Pro 2nd Amendment. When 2nd amendment says “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”, it means what it says. Take note of the word “Arms”, which means PLURAL. Take note of words “SHALL not be INFRINGED”, which is being violated often these days, and I take issue with this.
- Civil Rights advocacy
- Full Legalization of Cannabis. Even though I approve of medical marijuana, my heart felt advocacy is the FULL LEGALIZATION of marijuana to include recreational, industrial and medical. While some may get medical cannabis while dying in hospice care, the greater population is rotting in prison over small marijuana possession. Yes, its the prison thing & the threat of it, that got me involved in the movement to help get marijuana fully legalized.
