Aug. 23, 2012 , was Jesse Jackson 2nd visit to Oklahoma within a 4 month time period over complaints of racial discrimination of black Oklahomans. This time its in Stillwater, OK about a black OSU basketball star who got convicted & its believed to be racially motivated by an all white & 1 Asian jury on rape accusations of 2 white women.
Last time he came was to Tulsa concerning the black part of town where black residents were targeted & gunned down & killed by 2 white men. Oklahoma DA did not want to charge it as a hate crime. But after Jackson touched down on Oklahoma soil, the DA changed his mind.
So, at this Social Justice Advocacy Forum (in the video) held on Aug 23, 2012 at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Stillwater, OK – Jackson proposed that Stillwater create a united front/force by organizing a Rainbow Push Coalition chapter. The purpose of forming a Rainbow Push Coalition chapter (as I understood it) was to be able to organize Oklahomans on the ground to fight against the standard practice of racial discrimination /civil rights violations in this state that seems to not get addressed or handled by Oklahoma government. According to Rainbow PUSH Coalition website, it is the product of a social justice movement that grew out of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s (SCLC) Operation Breadbasket .. that is intended to effect progressive economic, educational, and social policy in America.
1 of the main purpose of 8/23/2012 forum was to organize efforts to get the judge to set Darrell Williams free, as the way the trial was conducted seemed as though the conviction was racially motivated; & many feel that the 2 white women lied in accusing him of rape.
