While Hughes County Sheriff deputy insiders campaign for more spending on an impoverished county budget to procure vending machines & more computers, the outsider Todd Hignite runs for sheriff on a platform of instilling public confidence back into Hughes County sheriff office.
Hughes County sheriff Houston Yeager is retiring, which frees up the position for 2012. Four men are running for county sheriff. Two of them are insiders who are currently with Hughes County sheriff department: Doug Sipes, who is the undersheriff; and Nolen Grizzle who is a deputy who started with the department since June 2011. The other 2 includes Todd Hignite and Kenny Snyder, who I consider to be outsiders because they do not work for Hughes County Sheriff Department.
Hignite’s platform of instilling public confidence in law enforcement was further contrasted by the 2 insider rivals’ message of denial that public trust in the sheriff department was an issue in the county.
According to the Oklahoma Sheriff association website, all candidates running for Hughes county sheriff are democrats. The election dates: Primary June 26, 2012. Run off August 28, 2012. General election November 6, 2012. Hughes County Sheriff Department covers the following areas:
